A new addition to perch ice fishing

The most common bait for the mormyshka is maggots—often one or several. Bloodworms are also an excellent option thanks to their strong scent and because they are a natural food source for perch.

You should also try Norolan’s scented artificial maggots. A proven bait setup for larger perch is 2–3 artificial maggots combined with 1–2 real maggots. This way, the hook always has durable artificial bait attached, enhanced by the natural scent of real maggots.

There are many different techniques for leader jigging. Stirring up the bottom, shaking the jig, and lifting it are among the most popular basic moves—but occasionally it’s worth letting the lure rest completely still.

A simple technique for beginners:

Lower the jig to the bottom and stir up the bottom 2–5 times
Start lifting the jig slowly upward, occasionally shaking it
When the jig is about half a meter off the bottom, give it a twitch with the rod and let it glide back down, then repeat
If nothing happens, move to a new hole fairly often—about five minutes is usually enough to tell if there are active fish nearby
