Norolan Jänkäpukki Ice Fly

Jänkäpukki is the smallest member of Norolan’s ice fly series. Despite its size, the fly’s larva-like body and fluffy peacock collar make it a striking presence. Norolan’s Jänkäpukki is designed especially for ice fishing for whitefish, perch, and grayling.

The fly’s name originates from the late teacher Pauli Pirttijärvi from the village of Jaatila in Ala-Kemijoki. The term Jänkäpukki was once used to describe somewhat difficult students, but it also referred to the slow movement of a reindeer wandering in the marsh. In the same way, this fly drifts slowly, yet with its hairy collar, it presents a dignified appearance.

Jänkäpukki works well even without bait, but performs excellently when enhanced with bloodworms or maggots. The fly’s design combines a larva-like structure with the outer form of a caddisfly larval case.
